A Better Understanding of Ingredient Quantities.

Teaspoons, Tablespoons, Cups, Quarts. The list goes on. Sometimes determining the amount of a certain ingredient can be the hardest part of successfully completing a recipe. If the recipe I want to cook calls for a certain amount lemon juice, how many lemons will I have to buy? Refer to our guide below to make the most approximate purchase possible, next time you’re at the grocery store.

Fruits, Vegetables
Juice from 1 lemon = 3 to 4 tablespoons
Juice from 1 orange = 6 to 7 tablespoons
Grated peel of 1 lemon = 1 teaspoon
Grated peel of 1 orange = 2 teaspoons
1 medium app, chopped = 1 cup
1 medium onion, chopped = 1/2 cup
1/4 lb of celery (~2 stalks), chipped = 1 cup
Cheese and Eggs
1 lb of shredded processes cheese = 4 cups
1/4 lb crumbled blue cheese = 3/4 to 1 cup
1 large egg, beaten = 1/4 cup
12 to 14 egg yolks = 1 cup
8 to 10 egg whites = 1 cup
Nuts
1 lb walnuts in shell = 2 cups, shelled
1/4 lb chopped walnuts = 1 cup
1 lb almonds in shell = 1 cup, shelled
